It seems odd that Jacob and I are old enough to be writing
yearly newsletters about what our family has been up to and we often comment on
not being mature enough to be married. I guess that’s life. After seeing Rhea
and Austin’s newsletter we’re going to take a page from their book this year and
give you month-by-month highlights of our little family. So here we go:
January: The year started pretty quiet with Jacob and I
being married for about 5 months. We love being married and have continued to
enjoy it since then. Jacob started his first teaching job at Western Washington
University teaching faculty and staff conversational Spanish. Don’t worry; he
still had time to finish his own coursework.
I kept busy with Savior of the World musical practices.
February: Our first major purchase! The growing up
continues. After a minor not so minor car accident, Jacob and I bought our
first car together. Budge, a little ice blue Rav 4. Jacob was also accepted
into the University of Kansas Masters of Hispanic Literature program.
March: What do I remember of March? Mostly attending Savior Of
The World musical practices with 11 final performances in the middle of the
month. I can’t tell you what an amazing experience it was to be in a production
of that nature. Oh, Jacob? He turned 23. Whoopee!
April: Jacob was invited to participate in his first two
academic conferences with papers he wrote. We anticipate there will be many
more to come. The sad news of April was
having a surprise trip to Utah for my Grandma Booth’s funeral. Although this
was a sad occasion we are grateful that she is in a better place. And ten days
later Jacob and I road tripped down to Utah again to be with our dear friends
Maggie and Jeff as they got married. What a beautiful and special occasion- we
were so honored to be a part of it!
May: Laurel Price was
in a musical at school and we were able to see her perform! Jacob and I
celebrated with Austin as he graduated from Washington State University and
then a few days later as Austin and Rhea became parents of Twins!
June: Jacob received the Outstanding Graduate award from the
department of Modern and Classical Languages at Western Washington. One of only
40 recipients! He also graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Spanish, cum
laude. We were able to celebrate high school graduation with my cousin Kiera
and finally met the twins. At the end of the month our friends got married and
we were honored to be a part of their wedding!
July: As always, 4th
of July was spent at the cabin. Earlier in the year Jacob and I were asked to
be ‘Trek parents’. This means we were parents to seven 14-18 year olds on a
pioneer trek in Eastern Washington for four days. We loved every minute of it
and would gladly do it again. Once this was over we could finally focus on
packing for the big move to Kansas.
August: We celebrated our one-year wedding anniversary in
Seattle where we had our honeymoon. The next week we packed for a little
camping trip to Lake Pearrygin with family and friends. The sun and water was
wonderful! The week after that we loaded up our Budget truck, tacked little
Budge on the back and drove ourselves out to Kansas. I celebrated my 22nd birthday. Two
weeks later, Jacob started his master’s program. Oh and we can't forget little William! Alex and Kristine's third child and second son was born. Third children unite! (Jacob and I are both thirds.)
September: Hmmm. September seems to be the blurriest. We spent the majority of our time
establishing ourselves in Kansas. By this time I was still looking for
employment but had started volunteering at the local hospital. Jacob continued
to plunge into his schoolwork and form a routine. But don’t worry, we made time
for weekly trips to the ice cream shop.
October: Much more of the same. We did get to go to a
National concert- one of Jacob’s all-time favorite music groups. I have to say
we really enjoyed the music and the venue. We also can say that October was
filled with lots of beautiful autumn days and fun with new friends.
November: I finally found a job all thanks to Jacob. I am
currently a nanny for a family of three, although I’m only at home with two of
them. By this time, Jacob has confirmed to many that he will do very well in
graduate school, loves the schoolwork and the people that he has become friends
with. We also were able to travel to Washington for Thanksgiving. It was great
to spend time with all the Booths.
December: Jacob and I had joined the stake Christmas choir
and the first weekend in December was our concert. We had a lot of fun being a
part of something musical together and hope to do more in the future. The last
half of December was spent with the Prices in Washington. What a magical time
to spend with family. We were also able
to spend a few days with the Booths around New Years.
We are so grateful for all that 2013 has brought us! We can
look back and see so much change and growth in ourselves and in our marriage.
We’re grateful for all our friends and family who have been a part of this year
(especially in the daily grind). We know that 2014 will bring much more growth
and we look forward to all the Lord has in store. We hope that 2014 is bright
for you!
